Yokai - Feudal Japan TTRPG

Yokai is a micro RPG based on the Encore system created for the Samurai Game Jam Hosted by Dungeon. #samuraigamejam

In Yokai you will traverse the lands of feudal Japan, hunting down evil spirits and honing your skills along the way. Enter the Yokai's domains and rid the land of their evil, but be careful as your GM will be taking on that very role.

Asymmetric Gameplay 

Most RPG systems will have one person act as the GM and the rest act as players. This is still true for Yokai. However, once the players have entered the 'Yokai's Domain' then the role of the GM switches from Game Master to Yokai Player. Partial control of the game is now in the fate of the Yokai Dice. The Yokai will roll for their traps, monsters and environmental changes!

Bunraku Domain!

This version of Yokai features one unique domain mechanic. The domain is situated in an abandoned Bunraku Theatre . 

Bunraku - A form of traditional Japanese puppet theatre.

"As the hunters enter the domain, they hear a stir of whispers in the vicinity. After focussing in on the sound they realise they are being patiently watched by an audience of Yurei (lost spirits). Across the room another spirit sits with Shamisen in hand."

Appease the Yurei and win favour of the Shamisen spirit, gaining bonuses during their textured melodies.

Guide Reading Order

If you are a Hunter/Player then please read only the,

 'Yokai Guide'

If you are a Yokai/GM then read the 'Yokai Guide' first, and then the,

 'GM Yokai  Guide'.

The 'GM Yokai  Guide' has information needed to play the Yokai, this information should not be seen by hunters if they wish to receive the best playable experience.
